Roxy's Owl Hat

This has been my most popular hat.  It is called Roxy's Owl.  Why you ask?  Because it was originally designed and made for Roxy.  Roxy lives in New York and is the surrogate granddaughter of my very good friend .  Roxy is actually the granddaughter of my friend's late sister and she has stepped in to fulfill her sister's role.  She picked the colors for the owl because she was planning a trip to visit Roxy and her new brother Alister, last fall.

Shortly after my friend returned from the trip, Roxy's dad sent this picture of Roxy wearing her hat.  They say  Roxy loves it and wears it every day.  I posted this picture on KALDesign's Facebook Page and all of a sudden I had orders for 7 hats just like this for Christmas presents.  WOW!!

Today, I met Roxy and her family.  They were in town for the wedding.  I made the wedding dress for the bride, who is my friends daughter.  It was so wonderful to meet this sweet little girl in person and ................

to see her wearing her hat.

Christmas Hats

I am almost finished.  The big order, 9 hats is finished and delivered. These hats are going to the nieces and nephews of my mom's physical therapist.  Tate wore a monkey hat to visit mom one day last month.  She asked where I got it and when I told her I made it, she asked if I could make some for her family.  Sock monkey hats for the little boys.  One older boy got a Spurs hat since he lives in San Antonio.  And the girls got Roxy Owl hats.

3 more orders by Christmas and several on the waiting list for after the first of the year.

One of my customers sent me this picture via a Facebook Message so I don't know where she found it. Her message said, "Could you make this hat for Emmalynn? What I readlly like about is the colors - Christmas-like but NOT bright. Let me know!"

So I went on a search for yarn. After the third store I found this yarn.

I shared it on Facebook so my customer could see it and got some interesting comments.

I just had to laugh when I saw the comments.  My thoughts were "They just have No Vision."
I am so glad I can see something unusual and envision it differently.  Truly a gift from God.  This yarn wasn't exactly like the yarn the hat I was trying to recreate was made from, but it was the right colors.  The YARN was the only thing I could find after visiting 3 stores that was the right colors.  That was what was important to my customer.  So I bought it.

I must admit that I was afraid it wouldn't be a vibrant as the original.  But as I worked with the yarn, I really liked how things were turning out.

Busy Life

I have no excuses....time has just gotten away from me and I have stayed busy.  I just realized that it has almost been a month since my last blog post.  I am way behind!!!!

Adler in his sock monkey

Miss Roxy in her Owl hat.
I have been busy crocheting.  Special orders for Christmas have kept me happily busy.  I am making lots of sock monkey and owl hats.  These two seem to be the most popular styles.

And here are a few more special order hats I made this month.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Having so much fun

I am having so much fun making crocheted baby hats.  Most of them don't know what they are gonna be until they are finished.  I don't use a pattern.  I do spend time on Pinterest looking at other's creations for inspiration.
The process I follow is to look through my yarn and pick a ball/skein that is calling my name.  I then see if there is anything that I like to coordinate with it.  I start crocheting and as the hat starts taking shape I decided whether it will be an owl, or a sock monkey, or a bear, or just a beanie with flowers, or a stocking cap.....well you get my drift.

So here are the hats I created this week:

Crocheted Hats - Photo Props

I have recently placed my crocheted hats at Wink boutique in Pflugerville Texas.  My very good friend Dana and former sewing student just opened Wink earlier this month and I am thrilled to have a local brick and mortar outlet for my hats.  I am even more thrilled to know that people like them enough to purchase them.  I got a text from Dana yesterday that 5 sold in one day.  I guess I better get busy crocheting.

The Character Hats are very popular right now as Newborn Photo Props.  The brown owl hat below will be going to Brown-Eyed Girl Photography in Schertz, TX  this week along with a Sock Monkey Hat, to be used by Jana in her photography shoots.  It will be an honor to have my hats featured in her beautilful pictures.

The 3 hats below will be delivered to Wink boutique this week to join my other hats for sale.  These hats are all newborn to 3 months size and perfect for those first pictures of baby and to keep your newborn warm as the weather turns cooler in a few months.
