Back in February, I got an email about registration for Scrap for Chap. Scrap for Chap is a fundraiser for DSACT. (Downs Syndrome Association of Central Texas) This is the third year for this event. It is organized in honor of Chapman Ross, who has Downs. My sweet friend, Dana, also has a beautiful little girl named Faith who has Downs. So every time I get a chance to support DSACT I do. Dana was one of my sewing students who has become so much more. We joke all the time, that I should adopt her husband, Chris so I can be her "mom in love" too. If you are looking for darling baby gifts, check out Dana's website, Pampered and Posh
She is so sweet to give me credit everytime I tell her what cute things she makes.
When I saw that the date of Scrap for Chap was 2 days before Amy's birthday, I thought it would be a great to celebrate her birthday by treating her to her first crop. So yesterday Amy, Dana, and I spent 12 hours together scrapbooking, eating, talking, and just having some good girl time.
It takes awhile for me to commit to gluing when I scrapbook. Generally a page sits on my scrapbook table for a day or so before I am ready to commit. I change things, add things, move things around, and double check that everything looks like I want it to before finishing. I am not just creating a scrapbook, but I am creating art. I am not just gluing pictures to paper, but I am trying to create something for my grandboys that will tell them, when I am no longer around to tell them myself, how much I loved being their Gammi. So it has to be right.
In the time I was at Scrap for Chap, I actually committed and completed two 2 page layouts and one single page layout. 5 12x12 pages in one day. That has got to be a record for me.
The first pages I did were of Drake. He went to Home Depot with Pops and I last Sunday afternoon. He wore his Bob the Builder Hat and was the star of Home Depot.
The conversation in the car went like this:
Gammi: Are you Bob the Builder?
Drake: No I Drake
Gammi: so you are Drake the Builder?
Drake: Yeah
Gammi: What are you going to build?
Drake: I build a house
Gammi: What kind of house?
Drake: An orange house
Gammi: and what else will you build?
Drake: a big roof
Gammi: and what else will you house have?
Drake: a door and a table and a chair and a floor.
ENOUGH SAID!!!!!"
The title and embellishments on this page are Provo Craft Hugware that I printed on my computer and cut out. I layered 2 exact copies of everything with foam tape to give the page some dimension. The little screws are diecuts I cut out using my Craft Robo.
On this page the dump truck and the steam roller were cut from leftover fabric that I used to make bassinet sheets and diaper changer covers out of for Drake's nursery before he was born. I ran the fabric through my Xyron to make stickers from the fabric. On both of these pages I use my sewing machine to stitch the patterned paper to the white cardstock to create the background for the pictures.
Next I worked on some pictures of Adler. In February, Pops decided to take Adler to Louie Mueller's Barbque in Taylor, Texas with us. It is a dining experience in itself, but this was a special day. Adler had his first taste of his Pop's favorite barbecue and also Big Red. Big Red was created in Waco TX where Pops grew up and it was one of his favorite soft drinks when he was a kid.
The patterned paper used for these pages is from the Horsin' Around Collection by Flair. The "Big Red" title was printed from clipart found on the Internet and colored with Stickles to give it some pizazz.
The star is a Bazzill Chip and was distressed with a Ranger Paint Dabber in Red Pepper. The ribbon in the star is denim strips torn from an old pair of jeans and some jute. The BarBQue Title was cut from a Coke can. It was embossed using a Cuttlebug and the Textured Textiles folder. I painted the metal piece with a paint dabber in Pearl and then sanded to take away the paint on the high places.
The last layout is a single page layout. I took this picture of Drake wearing his Pop's cowboy hat. The hat hangs on the bedpost of our bed so every time Drake goes into the bedroom, he points to it and says, "Pop's Hat" I love this picture of him sitting in my rocking chair with the hat on. I just want to squeeze those chubby cheeks and his big blue eyes just melt my heart.
The denim jeans yoke is actually cut from a pair of Pop's jeans. The embellishments are Provo Craft Hugware, printed and cut out. The title block is fastened down and the edge of the picture is framed with bronze brads by Making Memories.
We had a wonderful time at Scrap for Chap. Thank you, Jodi, for doing such a bang up job in organizing the best crop I have been to.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMY!!!!
