When thinking of being a Grandmother, I always wanted to be called "Sugar". That would have been so cool. So that is what I said whenever my first Grandson was born. People would ask what Drake was going to call me, and I would say. "I want to be Sugar, but I will take whatever the little Darlin' wants to call me."
Then came along Adler. "Sugar" was not acceptable to his daddy. Zach said, "my son isn't going to call you "Sugar", because that sounds like a stripper's name." Made me wonder how he knew what strippers were named, because I know he was a very good boy growing up. Zach, if you are reading this, perhaps you would like to explain...... LOL.
But I digress. Okay, I couldn't be Sugar. Drake hadn't started talking yet, so it was okay to change my name, Now I would be called "Gammi". I liked it. "Gammi" was cute. It was spelled unusual and I like unusual names. Anyone with "Antoinette" for a middle name, has to like unusual names or have a complex. So for the last year, I have been "Gammi" Everyone called me "Gammi". Everyone but Drake. And of course Adler, but he's not talking yet.
Drake would say everyone's name but mine. We have a family picture hanging in the hallway. When you point to each person Drake would say their name --- except for mine. Then he would say nothing. He would just grin. Pops, Daddy, Mommy, "Zak", and "Pril" (Zach and April) - but nothing for me.
This morning when Amy brought Drake she was carrying a book of his first birthday pictures. She said, "I brought this because you finally have a name and I wanted you to hear him say it" So we went through the pictures and when we got to mine, I pointed to it and said, "who is this?"
Drake looked at me and grinned. Then he said it. In the sweetest little boy voice......."Na-nee"
And several times during the day, I would point to a picture of me and say, "who is this?" The answer was always the same.
Okay so I don't know how we will spell it yet since at not quite 2 - Drake can't tell us, but I finally have a name. And true to my word..... I will be thrilled with whatever the little darlin' wants to call me.
I AM NA-NEE .....or Nanni. As I said before.....I like unusual spellings and names.
I wonder how Adler will adjust to my name change. Will I be Nanni to him, or will I stay Gammi? ......or will he come up with a name of his own? All I can say is.....I will be thrilled with whatever the little darlin' calls me.
