Failure to Commit.

If you scrapbook you have probably experienced what I did with Adler's Halloween Costume page at one time or another. Failure to commit. No matter how I went about it, I just wasn't happy with how this page was turning out. So it laid on my scrapbook table for 2 weeks. I changed something everyday. Still not quite right.....After all, how do you make a Halloween scrapbook page for a sweet little baby who is dressed like a mouse, in gray and pink. Halloween is black and purple and green and orange all mixed together. At least those are the colors of most of the really nice scrapbook paper for Halloween. And the paper is a bit scary with ghosts and witches and skeletons. They just didn't work for my little grandboy.

I laid it all out with the embellishments and background paper that I thought might work. I really wanted to use some grungeboard. And some glimmer mist. And some distress inks. And some of my new distress stickles. I cut a pumpkin paper piecing and chalked it and stickled it.

I created my journaling block. Next decide I had to decide what title should I use. That took another day. Finally - mouse and cheese. "Say Cheese" is what that perfect little pose called for. But then I needed a block of cheese to go with it. And then the Pumpkin didn't work anymore. Then I didn't like the patterned background paper that I had it all laid out on, so I switched to plain cardstock. I inked the edges and laid it all out again. I moved it around several times. Now it was too plain. Find some patterned paper for a mat and distress it. That's better. HMMM Cheese or Pumpkin. Another day gone. It is finally CHEESE. Now to find the arrangement. Needs some machine stitching. I did that and laid it all out. Time to pack for my Friday night crop. I will finish gluing it at the crop and I will have a finished page. I pack it up. I get to the crop, lay it all out again and am ready to glue. I glue the pieces of my title together. I start to glue down the picture. My friend starts helping me reaarrange again, saying "this might work better". I look at what she has done. OH NO!! Where is my journaling block. I know I packed it. Nope, no where to be found. Pack up the layout and work on something else. Another day gone.

Finally Saturday night, I have everything put away from the crop and ready to finish this layout. Yeppers. There is my journaling block laying on my scrapbook table where I left it.

Let's get this over with. I laid it out, glued it down and didn't look back. No more second guessing myself.

IT IS FINISHED!!!
This is the final outcome. I am pleased.
I used a large Grungeboard scroll. First I sprayed it with graphite Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels. It gave it a nice gray glow that matched Adler's gray mouse costume. Then I put a light coating of Distressed Stickles over it. I used Peeled Paint and Spiced Marmelade. The distressed stickles have mica in them instead of glitter. It added a little depth and a touch of color that blended with the rest of the layout. I cut the flourish in half to use as a corner around the picture, but that got changed too. You can also see the wavy machine stitching I used to frame the page in this picture.

Double matted the picture and used my foam applicator from Ranger to add a little distress color to the mat.

And finally my title, matted on black to pop it off the page and colored with peeled paint and spiced marmalade distress inks.

The journaling says it all.....at 9 months old Adler could have cared less that it was Halloween. He couldn't Trick or Treat. He couldn't eat any candy. (Well at least he shouldn't). Halloween for a 9 month old little boy is ALL for his parents and grandparents.

I didn't know you were supposed to glue things down until you had changed your mind a dozen times:)
