What do you do when the Power is out?

I was between projects. I had been looking through pictures on my computer and trying to decide which ones needed to be included in my scrapbook next. And then it happened. No warning. No storms. Not even a cloud in the sky. Everything shut down. The computers, the TVs, the fans, the air conditioner. Oh what to do?

The power was out for two hours. It was 105 degrees outside and even though the air conditioner couldn't run it was still much cooler in our well insulated house than it was outside. It was supper time and I couldn't cook so we decided to go pick up some sandwiches, hoping that when we got home, the electricity would be restored.

When we got home the power was still out so I decided to find something to do. As I was getting dressed this morning, I realized that I didn't have any red earrings. I had made a red necklace a couple of years ago, but no earrings to match. Our morning excursion was a road trip to Wimberly. As we were looking through all the quaint little shops, I had my eyes on the lookout for red earrings. Somehow I just couldn't bring myself to pay $15 for a pair of red earrings that I really didn't like or didn't match my red necklace. So I asked Mike to stop at Michael's on the way home so I could pick up some ear wires.

Even though he really dislikes crowded parking lots on weekend days, he was wonderful to brave it long enough to let me pick up what I needed. What a difference between a sleepy little town with almost NO traffic and Austin with it's congestion and inconsiderate drivers. I could have waited but it was on my mind and I wanted to have the things I needed when I was ready to do it, so I asked. And Mike, my wonderful husband, did what he does best. He took care of me and made it possible for me to get what I wanted even if it wasn't the most comfortable thing for him to do.

So now, without electricity and being able to do what I had PLANNED, I was prepared to make my RED EARRINGS.
I'm not a jewelry maker. It is something that I have played at on occasion, but haven't really gotten addicted to like I have my other "crafts". But I am pleased with the outcome. I took apart my red necklace and re-strung it with 2 less beads than before. And used the beads to make my earrings. Now I am a happy camper and the next time I
want to wear RED jewelry, I will be prepared.

So all in all, it was a great day. We took a fun road trip. We spend quality time together. My sweetheart showed me in a big way how important I am to him. And I have a new pair of earrings.

what a great idea Karen to use two beads from your necklace...might have to do that for the ones I can't find any red to match. :) They look great!!
