My Little Hero - My Little Angel

Sometimes you just know God is in control. Sometimes you know that He is watching out for you and those you love in a way you never expected or imagined. Sometimes He uses a little child. We are approaching Christmas Day - when we celebrate the birth of a little child that came to save the world. Jesus may not of been born on December 25th, but that is when WE celebrate. It is a day that our family comes together to read the story of Jesus birth and exchange presents as a symbol of the Greatest Gift that God has given us.

This year we will also celebrate how one small little boy was instrumental in saving the matriarch of our family.

Drake spent the night with us this past Friday night while his mom and dad went to a Christmas party. He was settled in his room fast asleep so I went to bed in my room. "Maw" (What Drake calls his Great Grandmother Hall) was asleep in her room downstairs. Drake's room is at the top of the stairs and my room is at the other end of the hall.

At 2:30 am, I heard Drake calling me. "Gammi. Gammi." I went to him and I told him I would be right back and he said, "Okay, Gammi" Normally he would have wanted me to lay down with him right then. I walked out of his room and heard what I thought was my cat meowing at the bottom of the stairs. It was that kind of sound. As I listened closer, I realized it was my mother calling for help. In a weak voice she was calling, "Help. Help"

She has a life alert button, but in her confusion, she forgot about it and was just calling out.

I found her sitting on the floor with her back against the bed. Apparently she had fallen while trying to go to the bathroom and couldn't get back up. If Drake hadn't of called me, I might not have heard her.

Mike and I got her up off the floor, but when I tried to help her to the bathroom, her right leg would not respond and she couldn't walk. So I sat her in her chair and called 911. I thought she had had a stroke since she has battled high blood pressure and has had some mini strokes in the past.

Drake's mom and dad got here for him at the same time the firetruck and ambulance arrived. So Drake got to see the flashing lights and all the excitement.

We got my mom to the hospital and discovered she had had a heart attack. If Drake had not awakened me when he did, God only knows what the outcome would have been. But the point is, God does know. And He also knew that it would take a little boy to wake me on a night that my mother would need me to respond to her.

The next morning Amy, Drake's mommy, told me that the first thing Drake said when he woke up was, "I want to pray to Jesus". When she asked him what he wanted to pray about, the first thing he said was, "MAW" He also prayed for Santa and his cousins. But Maw was on his little heart. What childlike faith!!!

While we were talking on the phone, his mommy asked him, "Did you hear Maw calling for help and wake up Gammi?"

His reply was......
"Yes and then the firetruck and ammmmulance came and rescued her!!"

I told him, "You're my little Hero"

and his reply was. "I know" Pin It
